"Here Is A Partial List Of the Items I Received..."

"I ordered the Celebrity Black Book back in September. It's amazing.

I picked 41 celebrities and wrote a letter that was the same for each celebrity. The secretary at the church that I belong to made copies of the letter and then I mailed the letters.

Six days after I mailed the letters, I received some items in the mail at the church. SIX DAYS! Since then, I have received more items in the mail from different celebrities. Anything that I receive in the mail goes for a silent auction at a fundraiser at my church except for one of the items, which I was allowed to keep for myself.

Here is just a partial list of the items that I have received:

1. 4 DVDs from the Gaither Music Company

2. Personally autographed copy of Pat Robertson's autobiography (Shout It from the Housetops)

3. Zig Ziglar's book - "Confessions of a Grieving Christian"

4. Personally autographed copy of Max Lucado's book - (A Christmas Child - The Story of Coming Home)

5. Billy Graham's book - "Unto the Hills - a Daily Devotional book

6. 2 personally autographed books from Rick Warren called "Purpose Drive Life"

7. Personally autographed copy of Michael W. Smith's "Worship" CD

8. Personally autographed photo of country music superstar Alan Jackson (The preacher of the church that I belong to told me I was allowed to keep the photo).

Sincerely,

Tim Delong

Katie's Amazing Race for Cystic Fibrosis

Bookmark and Share

Becky Gomes, who uses our Celebrity Black Book to request celebrity doodles each year to auction off for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (see video), also ties her quest to popular television shows to help raise money.

Becky's latest fundraiser is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's 'Great Strides' Walk, where she ties into to the Amazing Race TV show. Any charity can do this, as there are many television shows you can tie into.

Here's some of the copy for Becky's 'Amazing Race' event so you can see how she did it:

"In the Amazing Race reality show on TV, contestants compete for one million dollars. It is a strenuous race and very challenging, filled with unexpected twists and turns, detours, challenges and roadblocks. One Million Dollars -- quite a price and worth racing...

However, that prize is NOTHING in comparison to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis!

Katie is a real life player in the Amazing Race. She works daily to overcome the challenges of life with CF. She is blessed with a strong support team -- Mommy and Suzanne -- who encourage her when she encounters a hard challenge, such as when she was in the hospital for a long 25 day stay through Thanksgiving. Katie's doctors are also a wonderful team, providing her with up to date treatment and programs which will eventually defeat Cystic Fibrosis.

The hospital stay was definitely a ROADBLOCK -- a challenge in which only one person can participate. IT was a difficult ROADBLOCK -- daily challenges were met head-on by our Katie, who, even when discouraged, kept her sense of humor and her courage. Katie was wheeled off to the operating room, all alone, three different times.

Her support team needed support themselves, because it is most difficult to see a child alone where only she can go for treatment. So we played Scrabble on Grandma's iTouch while we camped out for days and talked about the fun trips we have taken and how we look forward to future fun times. Pappy helped by driving all of us in and out, picking up food and being moral support.

Katie had many DETOURS too... we all particpated in them. She was fine; no she wasn't. Things were looking up... then, another detour through her long journey. We prayed together. My support was created through you and the blog I kept; all the good wishes and prayers pouring in by the hour.

We need you to provide the prize for Katie's AMAZING RACE. Only research will help cure or control Cystic Fibrosis. The CF Foundation has an impeccable record of spending your money so that it benefits the patients of CF. Please help us reach that prize.

For informative videos and to see what Katie and others with cystic fibrosis go through on a daily basis, visit YouTube.com/CysticFibrosisUSA.

Please give what you can to help Katie in her AMAZING RACE to find a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis."

Your Company Has Made A Wonderful Difference...

"A few years ago, I was desperately trying to think of a way to make money for my son's medical bills. Since Edward is profoundly brain-injured, I cannot work outside of the home. I needed to raise money to take him out of state for treatment and training on how to help him. I had a dream to write to celebrities and ask for donations to do an auction to help pay expenses. I got online and did a search and Contact Any Celebrity popped up. Six auctions later, I have been able to raise money to help pay expenses to take my son for his treatments. Without that dream and Contact Any Celebrity, my son would not have been able to go for training and treatment. We go every six months, and each time he is a little better. Thank you, your company has made a wonderful difference in our lives."

We Had A Great Deal Of Success...

Bookmark and Share

When I ran a celebrity charity auction for a regional "Quantum Leap" convention we had a great deal of success.

I usually heard back from about 75% of the people I contacted. I kept the letters short and made sure they knew how much impact their donation had (for example, I told them that our auction provided 25% of a homeless shelter's operating budget for food). If they had helped us the previous year, I made sure to mention that.

I also included a one sheet hand out with the mission statement of the two charities and a contact name and number at the charity so they could verify the legitimacy if necessary. I was sure to provide a variety of contacts for myself as well (I was contacted by several publicists with questions). I also followed up with a postcard telling them we had received the donation and a thank you note saying how much the auction had raised and how we hooped we could count on their support the next year.

I tried whenever possible to send the letter to a publicist or agent rather than a studio. I marked the outside of the envelope "charity request enclosed," and I always sent a SASE. I also found that it helped if you sent something for them to sign (like a photo or script front) and then invited them to send additional items if they wanted. We got some unique items over the years including CDS and even a signed piece of an actor's family tartan. I hope these tips help.
